The World Diamond Council went live with its www.diamondfacts.org website. The website offers downloads for trade employees on conflict diamonds and the Kimberley Process, as well as printable handouts to give consumers. Organizers say much more content and information will be coming in August 2006.
To assist industry members the World Diamond Council launched the website as part of its effort to assist jewelers with educating employees and consumers on the positive contributions diamonds have made to the countries and communities where they are sourced.
The World Diamond Council urges jewelers to require written warranties from all diamond suppliers stating that diamonds invoiced have been purchased from legitimate sources not involved in funding conflict and recommends that staff assures consumers that warranties from suppliers are required.
“The elimination of conflict diamond is a moral imperative for the entire industry and based on our past success it is an attainable goal,” said Eli Izhakoff, chairman and CEO of the World Diamond Council. “However, for us to succeed it requires the commitment and participation of everyone in the industry.”
