RAPAPORT… The Responsible Jewellery Council (RJC) selected a second auditing firm to carry out third-party reviews of its membership’s business practices. SGS, based in Geneva, has considerable jewelry industry expertise and a global presence that will serve RJC, according to the company’s announcement.
SGS inspects, verifies, tests and certifies companies for conformance with established standards and is recognized as a global benchmark for quality and integrity. The company employs 59,000 people and operates a network comprised of more than 1,000 offices and laboratories. From its beginnings in 1878 as a grain inspection house, SGS has steadily grown into the role of industry leader, the announcement noted.
“We are very proud to be accredited to the RJC system,” said Frankie Ng, the executive vice president of consumer testing services for SGS. “High-performing business processes are at the heart of today’s economy. The audit and certification services we can provide to RJC members allow them to enhance their business processes. Through certification, they can deliver extra value, improve quality management and performance, minimize risk, and gain a real advantage over their competition.”
n June, RJC selected STR Responsible Sourcing as its first accredited auditor. RJC will announce the accreditation of additional auditing companies in the coming weeks.
